Project: Totally Not Worlds of Starcraft (3/16)
Mitch sent me not one but three guest strips all based around the idea of what conceptual problems Blizzard might have making a Worlds of Starcraft game. Here's what he had to say about his submissions.
So I was reading through some literature on StarCraft II, and it got me thinking about the future of StarCraft. The question that has at some point popped into practically every gamer's mind is: "Is there going to be a World of StarCraft sometime in the future?" So building on that idea, I imagined a conversation between a CEO and a "super secret project dev" at Blizzard. Their conversation would set the premise for several panes to follow, and end up back at their conversation. -Mitch (AKA Mitcheypoo) Mitch's intention was for me to make comics illustrating the conversation between the CEO and the Dev. My comic would sandwich his. But for it all to work they would pretty much need to run in sequence. And as much as I really appreciate Mitch's submissions, I just couldn't dedicate the entire week to a "non-existant" game without confusing the crap out of people. Anywho, thanks Mitch. I'll post the other two in the coming weeks. |

Hilarious to see the comic trailing back to WoW with it's Horde/Alliance Language barrier, respect to Mitch. The comic really made me chuckle.

I think Mitch's intention for the comic was to address the issue of itemization on an insect race that do not wear items in the first place.

Understanding that the creation of world(galaxy) of starcraft would be such a massive undertaking, I would still drop my WoW account in a second and leave all that progress behind to play.

As much as everyone (including myself) would like to see a "world of starcraft" game, I really don't see it happening ... ever.
Blizzard already has a hold of the VAST majority of the MMO market. Why would they spend a ton of money developing a new game just to have the same amount of subscribers since most of the players of world of starcraft would come over from world of warcraft. |

Because if they make a package subscription like SOE did, a large portion of those playing WoW would pay for both. And... there is a huge mass of people that played Starcraft that do NOT play WoW. Those people would be converted into easy dollars.

I always thought "Starcraft: Universe" would be a more appropriate title :-)
I'd also assumed that the zerg would install something akin to genetic upgrades, but it wouldn't really be the same at all - assuming the game was made. But there is always that "next-gen MMO project" that you occasionally see jobs for on their website... |

Considering how heavily WoW borrowed from Diablo 2 in terms of class design, could we expect Worlds of Starcraft to borrow from....Blackthorne? Rock & Roll Racing? Lost Vikings? :-D
Just a random, nonsensical thought. |
