For your viewing pleasure. (4/8)
Arty, Colossus slaying, PS2 hit Shadow of the Colossus seems to be slated for a movie release. Not much information has been given about the film. But, Kevin Misher (The Interpreter, The Rundown) is set to produce and Justin Marks (Street Fight: The Legend of Chun-Li) is working on the script.
Source: Risky Business Blog [ more info ] My initial response to this news was "cool". But then I started going over my memories of the game. It was absolutely gorgeous; but, it was sparse, there was no dialogue, it was repetitive, short, and the camera SUCKED! I just can't wrap my brain around how it will work as a film... unless it is drastically altered. And quite frankly, I don't think Justin Marks has the chops to pull that off successfully. I mean, from what I read characters who were only in the game briefly are going to play a larger part in the film. [more info] I loved the look of Shadow of the Colossus and when I ignored the camera I even enjoyed playing it. But, the solitude was part of the charm. I don't think I'm ready for what these people are going to do to it. ____________________ Today's Pimpage: Ted is wearing a "Grandpa Cassette" shirt from Threadless.Com. |

Why? I'd rather not promote him in any way. So, mentioning him in threads about movies he has nothing to do with is counter productive. Isn't it?

"Camera randomly spins away from the action during fight scenes"... Sadly, it seems to me that that's increasingly common in action movies lately, so it wouldn't be all that out of place in this game movie. (Though I really wish directors would STOP doing that. Give me the big establishing shot for the action and let us take in the scope of what's going on as it goes on. Don't jump in then away then in and away etc....
Wait, the guy who wrote a street fighter movie is working on the script? That's a second strike right there against this flick. It's not looking good for this game movie, is it? |

Speaking of the idea of bad things in video games being brought into a movie (the camera just shooting off into no where during a fight scene in a film is an oddly hilarious idea as I think on it), supposedly a World of Warcraft movie is in the works.
Does this mean in the Warcraft movie the characters will be jumping up and down in place for 15 minutes, for absolutely no reason? And if someone from the new Street Fighter movie is working on a Shadow of the Colossus movie, do we really have anything good to look forward too? |

It was simply the dread that he was involved in the first place.
In your listed concerns, at least you don't have to add that one! |

There's so many games out there they want to make into movies and I am ok with that. However it doesn't work if you totally alter the thing. Yes somethings have to be changed to make a movie work, understandable. Lets look at Mario Brothers though. That is an example of how not to do things. I think I can safely say Watchmen (although from a comic) was a better transition.
Really though has there been any good movies from games? |

I dunno Jantis. With a Boll movie, I know what I'm going to get: Crap. There's no need to get your hopes up that we're finally going to get something good.
--- Mindmeld_me... I liked the original Mortal Kombat movie, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, and the Resident Evil movies are in my guilty pleasure list. |

Looks like another idea has gotten thrown into the marketing machine to be chewed up and spit out. Hopefully the product is decent.

There are some decent video game movies. I thought Silent Hill was fantastic.
