Who would have freakin' guessed? (10/16)

Alrighty, the excessively late comic is done. Thanks those of you that watched the live feed. Hope you enjoyed the show. Sorry no recording of this one. I knew it was going to take forever to complete.

Anywho, the female character in the comic (the one on the left if you're confused) us named Oorba Yun Fang. She's one of the characters from the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII game. I found her by way of Destructoid. [more info]

Now the basis of the comic is true. When I first saw her, I just figured it was a guy. I was a bit surprised when I read the article. From there the jackass in me took over and thus the final bubble of text in the comic was born. **whistles**

I don't not think that word (effeminate) means what you think it means.

God I miss FF games I havn't played ones since FF8. I had FF9 i think but lost my discs not even sure what platform I'd need nowadays. I may have to look into that since I need to buy myse...my wife an x-mas gift.

As always great comic. She does have that dude looks like a lady thing goin on. Those toons in that series always can seem a tad interesting though I think that I was more confused on the nonhuman characters. I mean really Red-X? dude? chick? both?

And I'm kinda ashamed to admit it but I had a bit of a geekcrush on Yuffie when I was younger. I mean hell man a chick you could take to the dance, then beat up your ex! Woohoo!

Grayson it means exactly what I expect it means.

Guy characters in current final fantasy games look effeminate to me. Like I said in the writeup, I first thought it was a guy for THAT very reason. It's an opposite expectation.

Ha! It's funnier now that I know that :P Unless you are referring to your first post (which doesn't seem to indicate to me that you thought it was a guy because it was appeared to be a typical effeminate gender-non-specific male character from Square), then I missed the writeup, and totally didn't get the joke because of that But I still laughed about Yuffie's wang.

LoL!

Nice comic, Woody.

I miss the days in FFs where Men were Men, and Girls were Girls.

Back in the older FFs, where you saw a man, and you knew he was a man. There was no question. You saw a woman, you knew it was a woman.

These newer ones, sometimes I scratch my head, and go 'eh...?'.

I might be old-fashioned by saying this, but I miss the days when male heroes had some spine to them, and when they had the body of a hero. Not this lean, Robert Patterson look-alike body, but something more along the lines of Stallone or Schwarzenegger in their heyday.

If you're some guy who's wearing a full suit of metal plate armor, I hope you're strong. lol.

But then I think the Final Fantasy games have lost their appeal when they started slowly creeping away from Castles, Dragons, and Dungeons to all of this Tech stuff they got in them now. What next, a Final Fantasy set in a setting like Babylon5? Ugh.

Edit: Note, I have *nothing* against B5. I love B5. But when I play a FANTASY game, I want it to be.. *gasp* Fantasy. I love Sci-fi. *lovingly pets my Metroid collection..* I just don't like it when they try to mix the two. It Usually doesn't work.

I tend to dislike both extremes. While there are characters who have either feminine or beefcake traits that can be compelling characters, a character should not be something unless it fits that character. If it does not fit, it should not be.

But, while I never really liked the lead character of most Final Fantasies for their cardboard cut-out nature, the secondary characters tend to be a lot more interesting and multi-dimensional. Kind of wierd, considering that western media the exact opposite is usually true.

I was wondering if/when someone would bring up my namesake. Still, for non-humans, it makes sense. Not all species have clearly defined outward appearances for males and females.
