Losing Acclaim... pun intended. (8/31) UPDATED (9/2)
UPDATE:
Acclaim has filed voluntary Chapter 7. This means the complete liquidation of all assets. Simply put... no more Acclaim. __________ Original Post (8/31): The news behind today's comic isn't much of a suprise to the truest console game enthusiasts, but for someone like me it was a bit of a shock. Acclaim is one of those names you've seem on games forever. But, of late they've been struggling severely. Back in July it was reported that due to non-payment of royalties Acclaim was losing the licenses to the Turok Series and the rights to use player names and likenesses from Major League Baseball in any of their games. - Al @ GamerWinners.Com Around the same time Acclaim was sued by BattleBorne for not paying for development on the game Combat Elite: WWII Paratroopers and saying they were going to release the game DESPITE non-payment. - Justin Calvert @ Gamespot.Com Most recently, August 23rd, Acclaim issued a press release notifying the public that they'd lost their primary lender and that they'd recieved notice from NASDAQ that they were going to be delisted. Last week they sent their employees in NewYork and both UK offices home. Now, apparently they've done well to always catch a break at the last minute. This time, it just doesn't seem to be so. So, the electric glowing blue cylinder of doom seems to have honestly claimed another victim. And this time... it's not just a game, it's a whole damn company. |

I remember reading those articles and thinking that's a damn shame, they have been around a long time. One more example of how fickle big business especially in the gaming industry can be.

I look back at my old Acclaim titles with joy
anyway... they might rise as a trademark once again... just look at Atari |

Acclaim has strong name recognition. Which means they still have value even if they are beyond bankrupt. So much like what happened with Atari, they will get bought for a song by a larger company who will use the trademark to further their own interests.
I'm betting Microsoft in the kitchen with the lead pipe. |

I don't get the world today. Some one can't pay something, meaning they have no money, so the company they owe it to sues, it's not getting any of us anywhere.

All I'm gonna say is that this country seems to be getting lawsuit-happy. |
