When Logic and Ability collide... (12/27)
An independent, fan-based operation by the name of Doberman, has created a 2D side-scrolling version of Halo for the PC called Halo Zero.
Source: Gamespot [ more info ] It's an old school throwback, it's currently available via a free download, and I dig it. For obvious reasons, the 2D game is lacking a few key gameplay characteristics that we've grown accustomed to. But, ultimately the game enjoyable. Let's just hope Microsoft doesn't get all itchy and sue these folks into oblivion. |

look on the bright side, with only two-dimensions, the likelyhood of rebounding a plasma grenade off of a wall and sticking it to yourself is much, much lower.

Microsoft probably has "Halo" registered. So to play it safe they should come up with a euphamism. Like "Hey-low" or something. I used to work for Microsoft. Bill doesn't let things like that slide.

Yes, after all, this game infringes on any plans Microsoft had to take over the cellular gaming market.

no, copyright infringement applies regardless of profit.
Funny comic though. I've been having fun with some old atari games on my DS. Sometimes simple is fun. Frogger rules. |

Even if the game is available for free you still use the name which might lead to negative credits for the original in which case the owner of the rights might act. I know we (the germans) have a reputation for having laws about everything and such ^^ (besides other things ppl tell about us which I won't go into here and now). I wouldn't use the name Halo without asking for permission. Actually asking for permission isn't that much of a problem. I did that for a fan project concerning shadowrun (the roleplay game) for which microsoft has the only rights to produce and sell digital game stuff. I talked with someone from the MS Staff for a long time, argued, accepted some limitations and now have the rights to use the name while telling everybody who goes to my website, that MS owns my ass... aehm, I mean, is the owner of all the rights and stuff. If they did, they won't have any problems with the name and the game. I'll check their site when I'm home and can access it (my organisations firewall loves eating game sites ^^) *edit* someone else was faster ^^ I was right about the copy, right? ^^ sorry, stupid pun. as long as it is "satire" I think that they are immune. Like parody songs.
