Comics will be later than usual! (10/16)
After a recent Camelot Install my computer started acting funny. I did everything I knew how to do (and I know quite a bit) to resolve the issue, but I just couldn't pin down exactly what the problem was.
I took my computer to Data Doctors Saturday (10/14) so they could tell me what's happening and how to correct it. For the time being, I'm working on one of our laptops. (Read: not my main laptop) This will slow me down as I have to do a USB shuffle to use my scanner, my Cintiq, my mouse, etc. So yeah, just bear with me. There will likely be a Iggy strip today, and hopefully a regular comic tomorrow. --- Now, before you start offering me suggestions... please keep in mind that I loathe unsolicited advice. I'm quite knowledgeable when it comes to computer hardware, software, etc. If I need help, I ask for it. And in this case, I have put my "need" for help in the hands of Data Doctors. I appreciate your desire to be helpful; but in this case, it won't really help. If however you know a PR rep from Apple who wants to help move GU over to using a Mac Pro... send them my way. ____________________ Today's Pimpage: Woody is wearing a "Steak and Eggs" shirt from Threadless.Com. |

ACK! That sucks Woody.
It's nice when they work and, well, hellish when they won't. Hope it's a quick and easy fix (that you haven't thought of) and the beast is back in action soon.Thinking of which, it's about time I do the "drop the clean image" onto my PC, it's acting a bit squirrelly. |

Only computer advice I would give is a good whack with a hammer, while it won't fix the issues it does help with the anger. Mind the computer will be in a bigger mess than before but one feels better

Because the computer was orginally an Alienware, they didn't send me a copy of XP. And Taks' copy disappeared, we can't find it. So, unfortunately, I can't just reinstall.

Hrm.. they didn't/don't provide a restore/OS CD?
Another reason to build from scratch, though I'm sure Woody has good reason to pick up a read-made system rather than spend the time and effort to made his own, I know most people likely don't want to bother. Still, that sucks ![]() |

When a sponsor of the site offers to purchase you a multi-thousand dollar computer, it's ill advised to refuse. Since it was purchased for GU, I have upgraded just about everything in the case. So, it's no longer an Alienware system. It's a custom built machine in an alienware case.
There's a restore CD, but it caused more trouble than it was worth last time around. I won't use it again. |

Whoa, computer problems suck!
I don't use mine for anything work-related, but it's been non-functional for months, and it's really stressful to not have it work and not have the money to get a new drive to make it work. ^-.-^ |

That really sux Woody. I can sympathise with you for the number of times I've had to go through the same sort of thing. Fortunately enough I haven't had to resort to outside help yet. Hence why I run as much as I can on Linux rather than windows.
